Program Plans

The International Design Liaison Center plans to support a wide variety of design activities, including promoting links between educational and research institutions in every nation and Japanese industries and designers, developing and supporting educational programs, and providing information about all types of design practices. Its goals are to pioneer design concepts and methodologies that will serve us well in the 21st century and to train internationally-minded designers who can make use of these concepts and methodologies. The following is a description of program plans for this fiscal year.

This fiscal year will be the initial stage in building a base for global alliance activities. As such, we hope that this will be a year of taking the high-level capabilities of the participating educational and research institutions and the various design practices and programs found in Japan and overseas and making them widely known throughout Japan. With the objective of developing these kinds of promotions and alliances, we will implement the following First Stage Program.

1. Overseas Educational and Research Institution Promotion Activities

We plan to promote the best aspects of programs from overseas educational and research institutions to Japanese companies, designers, and other interested parties. In order to promote affiliations with them, we will conduct the following promotions:

a) Public courses conducted by overseas educational and research institutions

We will hold public courses presented by participating educational and research institutions. The courses will be intended for many kinds of people, including company managers, design managers, and graduate students.

The International Design Liaison Center plans to support plans for these public courses, as well as to aid in recruitment of participants in these courses and overall management.

b) Sponsorship of an international symposium for strengthening alliances

To promote alliances between overseas educational and research institutions and Japanese companies, or among overseas institutions, we will sponsor an international symposium in June. The plans for this symposium are to present the overseas educational and research institutions and to hold discussions about the shape of international training programs for sophisticated human resources.

2. Promoting Alliances between Japanese Educational and Research Institutions.

Alliances, especially academic-industrial alliances that Japanese educational and research institutions have set up, will be promoted to the general public at large, and we will carry out the following promotional activities to encourage the creation of further alliances.

a) Support for alliances between industry and academia

We plan to support public relations and management for domestic alliance projects. We also plan to support recruitment of participants in courses conducted in Japan and for management of these courses.

b) Promotion of new alliances between industry and academia

To promote alliances between Japanese educational and research institutions and Japanese companies or between Japanese educational and research institutions and overseas educational and research institutions, we will present domestic and foreign educational and research activities and examples of design practices to encourage the creation of new alliances.

3. Support for Design Activities

We plan to widely publicize design activities occurring on an international scale, whether domestic or foreign, and in order to unearth new potential alliances and support training of human resources, we will undertake the following support activities.

a) Support for information about design projects

We plan to support a variety of design projects being carried out in Japan or overseas. We will invite design information programs, such as symposiums or special events, to the Design Liaison Center and will support public relations for these events and management of them.

b) Support for human resources training for design

We plan to support various human resources training programs based on design held in Japan or overseas. We will invite human resources training programs, such as human resources seminars or symposiums, to the International Design Liaison Center and handle public relations and management for these events.
